CHAPTER SIX
HANGIN’ AROUND


Narrator: At the campus of Cal State Fullerton, Erich and her friends Nina, Jamilla, Denise, Kyla, and Brenda were walking down the dirt path that leads to the arboretum.

Kyla: Grabe talaga nitong blackout. Hay salamat…

Erich: Oo nga eh. Na gulat ako na ng pundi lahat yun ilaw sa kalye bago ako dumating dito. Tapos ayun… class cancelled. (smiles)

Denise: So ano gagawin natin kapag wala tayong class ngayon? Tapos nang klase ko kanina at 4.

Brenda: I’m not supposed to get out until 9, pero buti na lang di ako ng pasok.

Kyla: Hanggang 9 ka pa? Ako 10.

Jamilla: Asus… masyado kagabi ka sa school.

Kyla: Eh university naman ng papasukan natin eh. Di ba nga ganun ang mga hectic schedules?

Nina: Yeah, pero not as hectic as yours, Kyla. Dyos ko! Sino na may gustong ganyang pasok na hanggang 10?

Kyla: Late ako ng register kasi, kaya di ko tuloy mag kuhang gandang schedule.

Erich: Kaya pala eh. Bakit late pa?

Kyla: Eh medyo busy ako sa holiday season. I did not register until two weeks later.

Denise: Guys, kung pwede, papunta tayo sa bahay ko.

Brenda: Ano gagawin natin dun?

Denise: Wala… just chillax perhaps. (laughs)

Erich: Saan yun bahay mo?

Denise: Malapit sa Cerritos Town Center.

Kyla: Guys, busy pala ako mamiya.

Erich: Na naman. Ano gagawin mo this time?
Kyla: Family thing.

Brenda: Sigurado kaba?

Kyla: Oo. Bakit?

Nina: Kasi every time we wanna hang out, you always say you’re busy.

Kyla: Totoo naman eh. Lagi ganun.

Erich: Hayaan natin siya. Hihintay na lang mag summer para mag free time ulit siya. (joking)

Kyla: Hay naku. Sisira ka pa dyan, ah, Erich?

Nina: Speaking of Cerritos Town Center, I need to go to the AT&T store kasi my phone’s acting up pretty badly.

Jamilla: Anong klaseng phone mo?

Nina: (takes phone out of her pocket, showing it to Jamilla) Actually, sidekick 2 yun phone ko.

Jamilla: (takes Nina’s sidekick, looking around it) Mukhang bago pa ‘to. Gaano ka mahal ‘to? (hands it back to Nina)

Nina: (takes it back) $150. My cousin gave it to me two years ago when he got his I Touch phone for his birthday.

Erich: Cool. My ex-boyfriend used to have a sidekick 2, except it’s white.

Denise: Sino yun ex mo?

Erich: (laughs) Bakit gusto mo malalaman?

Denise: Wala. Di ko alam na may boyfriend ka noon pa.

Brenda: Kilala namin nila Nina, Kyla, at Jamilla yun ex niya. Masama siyang tao.

Jamilla: Oo nga. Ng iwanan siya para sa isang sexy at bingi yun babae.

Denise: Talaga? Bingi?

Erich: Hoy! Pwede ba wag tayo mag usapan ‘to?

Nina: Sorry, ha? Eh dapat di mo ng mention yun ex mo kasi.
Erich: Oo nga. Lalo ako ng lungkot dahil sa issue nito.

Jamilla: Aww don’t be sad, girl. (wraps arm around her shoulder) Ya know, mas mabuti pa kung mahal mo sa rili mo for being so amazingly beautiful and living your life well. Sana don’t let any other guy take advantage of your beauty.

Erich: Eh yun problema sa mga guys ngayon, mahirap sabihin kung totoo o hindi. They’re just so hard to understand sometimes.

Nina: Don’t worry. Basta you got us.

Brenda: Yeah. We’re always here for you, Erich. Di kami iiwanan sa iyo.

Denise: Remember, friendships last longer than relationships. (smiles as Erich smiles back at her)

Erich: Thanks, guys.

Kyla: No problemo.
